Fuel retailer Engen increases market share in Ghana

Engen Ghana Limited (EGL) says it is ready to increase its market shares in the country as well as control 10% of the market in Africa by 2016. The company, since it commenced operations in Ghana in 1998 has subsequently enjoyed steady growth both in the retail and commercial sectors. Operations have grown substantially since then, and EGL currently operates 23 fuel stations across Ghana and services approximately 40 commercial customers

Mr. Henry Akwaboah the Managing Director said this during the customer-appreciation dinner in Takoradi. “Since we started operations in the Western Region about six years, fortunes of the company have been turned around, we are here to appreciate our customers and to say “we value you for being loyal”, he said.

He added that businesses in Sekondi-Takoradi is growing steadily and announced that the company is putting in place structures to provide services for the marine industry as well as open service stations in the metropolis.

Mr. Akwaboah explained that Engen’s core business is the refining of crude-oil as well as marketing primary refined petroleum products. Currently, the company enjoys the biggest market share in South Africa and has a significant presence in 18 countries of sub-Saharan Africa.

He said also that the company exports products to more than 30 other territories, mostly in Africa and the India Oceans Islands, and manufactures a vast range of lubricants under its own brand and those of Petronas and ExxonMobil. “Petronas lubricants International (PLI) is the lubricants arm of Petronas globally, and Engen lubricants form part of this and represents almost all of Petronas lubricants interest in Africa.”

According to Mr. Akwaboah, Engen has entered into a lubricants alliance with ExxonMobil and is the sole marketer and distributor of a range of ExxonMobil lubricants in Africa - ExxonMobil is the world’s largest manufacturer of lubricant base stocks, a leading marketer of finished lubricants, and the world’s leading producer of synthetic lubricants.
