Austria's finance police have charged several motorway service stations in the east of the country for charging for toilet usage and wage dumping

In most cases illegal employment, wage- and social dumping as well as breaking the recent Supreme Court judgement that prohibits toilet fees lead to the indictment.

Charges have been brought against 26 of the 32 inspected service stations in Lower Austria and Burgenland. In several cases employees allegedly received less than 400 Euros salary per month working for example as toilet attendants, and collecting illegal fees. Some of them had been housed in windowless basement rooms under inhumane conditions.

The Financial ministry has announced further examinations due to the high amount of illegal activity uncovered in the focused check.
