Decision-makers from all corners of the petroleum sector attended the daytime exhibition and conference (sponsored by Franklin Fueling Systems) which, say the organizers, saw an increase of 11% in footfall compared to 2013.

According to Louise Morgan, former Chairman of the APEA, this year’s conference was the most well attended to date.

Conference programme

  • The conference programme began on a high, with ‘Convenience Retailer of the Year 2014’, David Charman, who shared his engineering challenges behind shop developments and offered guidance on what is needed from those who work in a busy petrol station environment.
  • Next, Design Engineer Tolulope Martin spoke about Shell’s latest development of an unmanned entry tank lining solution.
  • The AA’s, Andy Powdrill went on to speak about the consequences and solutions when people fill their vehicles with the wrong fuel.
  • Details on the design and operation of hydrogen fuelling stations, in Europe and the US were then revealed by Dr. Andrew Murphy from Shell Global Engineering.
  • Following lunch and the APEA AGM, Dr. Joan Kelley, Technical and Operations Director from Conidia Bioscience delivered key information and facts on the dreaded ‘diesel bug’.

  • The conference programme ended with London Fire Brigade’s, Brian Humm who went through the significant changes in legislation and the potential consequences that the industry needs to be aware of.

The pre-dinner drinks (sponsored by Fairbanks) took place in the exhibition hall, where guests were able to network with key prospects and clients ahead of the evening’s programme.

The APEA awards dinner (sponsored by Petrocom) drew more than 600 attendees, say the organisers. At the ceremony, the year’s top performing companies were honoured for their achievements.
