Swedish region to get first hydrogen filling station

A region of Sweden named Vastra Gotaland will get its first hydrogen filling station in 2015, according to a press release distributed December 8 by PowerCell, a company which offers environmentally friendly power systems and is involved in the project.

“A central resource in the project will be PowerCell’s laboratory for fuel cells, which we use for demonstration of hydrogen cars and for testing of fuel cell technology in vehicles”, said Magnus Henell, CEO of PowerCell Sweden, according to the statement.

The station will make it possible to test fuel cell vehicles in the region and to “motivate companies and the public organizations operating in the station’s proximity to start using these types of vehicles,” the statement added.

A fuel cell vehicle is powered by electricity and emits only water caused by a chemical reaction in the fuel cell, the statement explained.
