Demand for ethanol in India twice as big as supply in one large trade, report says

An ethanol buyer related to Bharat Petroleum Corporation had demanded 92 crore liters of ethanol but was only able to get an offer by the country sugar mills of 47 crore litres, according to a report published January 14 by Petrol Daily which in turn attributed it to Petroleum Bazar – Business Standard.

A crore is a unit used in South Asia equivalent to 10 million.
The country sugar mills are currently in the crushing period of the 2014-2015 season, the report said.
Bharat markets fuels and lubricants across India through a network of 12,000 retail outlets and over 500 distributors. Bharat also has a jet fuel business which represents about one-fourth of the entire aviation fuel in India.
India was ranked in 2013 by the Renewable Fuels Association as one of the top five producers of ethanol just behind China though its production volume is considerably lower than that of the biggest three: Brazil, the US and the EU.
