Italy opens first station just for LPG, CNG and EV; no traditional fuels

The first service station in Italy where it is not possible to find gasoline or diesel but instead only LPG, methane or electricity has recently opened in the Milan area under the flagship Eko Point, Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported in late December.

“We are the first in Italy with this ‘format’,” Stefano Cantarelli, head of the location, told Corriere della Sera.

“We are convinced that the future will go to clean energy not just because of lifestyle changes but also because of economic motives. From 2008 to 2013, consumption of traditional fuels has dropped 25.6% with gasoline alone by 35.7% but while this has occurred ecological products consumption has increased about 50%,” Cantarelli said, according to Corriere della Sera.

Cantarelli said that with just under a month of operation, as the station was inaugurated at the end of November, by December 19 he already had seen a level of sales that a traditional fuel station would get only after as many as four months of operations.

He said he intends to open more stations like this in other areas.

The newspaper said that the station can recharge electrical vehicles in about 15-20 minutes.

It was not possible for PetrolPlaza to independently confirm the information.
