Italian fuel retailers see ENI as pushing self-service in highways
The Italian Federation of Gasoline Providers (Federazione Italiana Benzinai), organized in 1963 and which calls itself in its web page the most representative association in the fuel industry in Italy, said that it and other related organizations have presented to country authorities an official complaint related to self-service.
According to a statement by the association, the organization told the country’s ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as well as the ministry of Economic Development that there was a “unilateral violation” of economic accords in place between the association and Eni.
The fuel retailers complain that there is an ongoing push by Eni to get single operators on the country’s highways to sign “letters of support" for the introduction of the modality self service pre-pay.
There was an accord going back to December 2011 involving Eni and industry associations which is being violated, the association said.
The practice is being denounced as “invasive” and dialogue on this topic has been requested. Fuel station operators members are being advised by the fuel industry association leaders that they should not support any proposal outside the channel of communication between Eni and the official fuel industry association leaders.
