Europe auto makers, refiners complain about French change in diesel specification

The European Automobile Manufacturer’s Association (ACEA) and FuelsEurope, which represents the EU petroleum refining and marketing industry, have “expressed concern” at the French Ministerial Order published on 3 January 2015 under which it increased maximum levels of Fatty Acid Methyl Ester in diesel to a maximum 8% by volume.

This compares with 7% by volume of maximum FAME allowed by European Technical Specifications, the organizations said.

“A deviation from this standard by individual Member States is neither in the interests of EU consumers nor the EU economy. It will lead to unnecessary higher complexity and extra-costs in the logistics and supply system,” FuelsEurope said.

Consumers are put at risk because their manufacturer warranties only cover those vehicles that use of diesel with only up to 7% FAME, FuelsEurope added.

“ACEA and FuelsEurope reiterate their call for a single consistent and high quality fuel market in the EU,” the groups said.
