Hydrogen filling station put into operation with Hectronic technology

Last update: | Advertorial

Fossil fuels are still almost solely used in the traffic field, which leads to the traffic sector causing about 21 % of the CO2 emissions in Germany. It is necessary to further advance the use of regenerative energy sources and create substitution options for fossil fuels. The use of climate-friendly propulsion technologies is therefore of great importance.

Hydrogen technology has established itself as a promising technology for the future. As only steam escapes during the consumption of hydrogen in the fuel cell of a car, the use of hydrogen in traffic can contribute to climate policy goals.

Costumer and Requirements

In the Rhineland/Germany, large quantities of hydrogen have been produced at the local chemical companies for many years. HyCologne has taken the initiative to make use of this hydrogen for trend-setting projects. HyCologne is a network for e-mobility, hydrogen and fuel cells in the Rhineland. The network is supported by 20 strong regional partners and companies.

The public service of the city of Huerth in Germany and the network HyCologne decided to use the existing hydrogen to cut down the CO2 emissions in the public transport sector. In this spirit they installed a filling station for the new two hydrogen urban busses.

HyCologne wanted a modern and secure refueling solution for a hydrogen filling station.

Solution

The main difference between a petrol and hydrogen filling station is the consistency of the fuel medium. The Hectronic electronic pump calculator ER5 had to be adapted to a special impulse sensor which uses the coriolis principle and reacts to gas. The filling terminal includes a Hectronic HecFleet NT CRID with a Mifare reader for a contact-free registration process.

The five digital inputs and the digital display enables to monitor the security parameters during the whole process. The evaluation of the filling processes takes place via the HecPoll filling station management system. The broad functions and the flexibility of HecPoll deliver HyCologne individualized statistics and reports. The remote function allows a password-protected access for supervisors or maintenance engineers, to remotely access the service diagnostic and parameter setup area of the machine as if it would be accessed locally at the machine.

Result

This is the first project to be equipped with the innovative and up-to-date autofuel system for a hydrogen filling station from Hectronic. The success of the Hectronic technology shows the subsequent project in London/England which has already been completed.
