First step – rebranding:

In 2008 «Melston Engineering» won tender for rebranding of JSC «Gazprom Neft» chain. The task was quite serious – reengineering and construction of over 1200 filling stations within 5 years period throughout vast territory: in Russia, the CIS countries, Europe. The reason to obtain the contract was hidden in the fact that CJSC «Melston Engineering» was the first company on the Russian market  to focus on the integrated engineering services for petroleum retail market.

As a result, the risk is fully justified: according to the statistics of «Gazprom Neft» schedule of the deadline compliance has revealed 98%. This is a unique achievement as an acceptable result for the Russian engineering market is a compliance of 50-60% .

Now,

  • Melston Engineering has provided maximum transparency of project management processes. The company has received certificatation of «Trace». This international agency provides the certificates to the companies ensuring a sufficient level of transparency in their business processes.
  • «Melston Engineering» company has been able to reduce the buying costs to 11% due to increased scope of order and implementation of the advanced tendering procedures based on the best global practices.
  • Melston Engineering has created and gradually professionally develops and nurtures its regional offices where the main objective is the consolidated approach to project management as well as constant and alert monitoring of the contractors in subordinated region.
  • Melston Engineering follows up on ongoing basis with its suppliers in terms of price and quality. Today the company has at least 100 partners. Our partners are Dibond, Modern-ExpoGroup, NVSS, VDS, PNSK, and many other companies. Since 2012 «Melston Engineering» has been an official dealer of «Wayne» dispensers in Russia and the exclusive dealer in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. An affiliated company “Melston Trading” has been founded with its main goal to further concentrate the efforts onto this direction.

Second step – Service maintenance:

The proper holding began to appear: on the 26th of April 2010 «Melston-Service» was founded. The company offered its new product for Russia – filling stations integrated maintenance service. Nobody provided that kind of services that were executed by only one contractor before. The list of the services includes:

  • Maintenance and repair of filling stations technological equipment and oil depots.
  • Maintenance and repair of engineering networks and systems.
  • Maintenance and repair of low-power systems, instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Scope of works to maintain equipment of the objects exterior design (external and internal branding constructions) in operating condition.
  • Maintenance and repair of buildings and constructions, platforms of all types of covering, sidewalks and driveways, fences, fittings, etc.
  • Organization and control over all type of works connected with the objects business function.

At the end of 2010 pilot project was set up. Melston serviced “Gazprom Neft” objects in Saint Petersburg and Leningrad regions. In June 2011 the project was recognized as successful and thereafter:

  • Melston began to provide maintenance services to “Gazprom Neft” filling stations in Moscow and Yaroslavl regions.
  • In May 2012 LLC "Melston-Service" entered into agreement with JSC "Gazpromneft-Novosibirsk" to maintain and repair brand constructions and equipment in Novosibirsk region and Altai,
  • From October 2012 same service has been provided to LLC "Gazpromneft-Omsk". 
  • In December 2012 LLC "Melston-Service" won a tender to provide consolidated maintenance service to LLC "Gazpromneft-Tyumen", LLC "Gazpromneft-Chelyabinsk", JSC "Gazpromneft-Ural", LLC "Gazpromneft-Nizhny Novgorod".

In 2012 other Vertically Integrated Oil Companies began to show their interest in the company’s services. Working relations with the companies such as “Statoil”, “TNK-BP”, “Neste”, «Lukoil» have been built. In august 2013 «Melston-Service» went through qualification and was granted with the access to provide service for JCS "Rosneft" facilities in the Moscow region.

At the moment company has:

  • Over 450 units of line personnel. Staff is formed of a number of highly qualified specialists who are constantly improving their skills on manufacturers of equipment from authorized distributors and dealers, as well as training centers;
  • Approximately 200 units of special automotive equipment and transport means.
  • At least 1000 equipment, material and services suppliers.
  • Own spare parts and accessories depots.
  • Melston has developed contract relations with service equipment manufacturing companies.
  • Russia-wide network of branch and representative offices.

Next step – branch service standards:

Current company’s plan (until 2015) is to implement own consolidated client service standards over the whole territory of its presence based on a tight connection with the customers. These standarts should be used as a basis to implement The Program of ongoing  training and personnel evaluation system, and thereby raise the bar of professional level for the entire Russian Engineering industry and technical service.

Key point:

This is just simple revolution, no miracle. The pieces of a puzzle «Effectiveness» always get together when three key elements are found:

  1. Specialization!
  2. Specialization!
  3. Specialization!
