Convenience store startup Foxtrot Market is accelerating its expansion with plans to open 50 new stores within the next two years, reports several media. Once opened, the Chicago-based company will count up to 63 locations.

Foxtrot Market raised $42 million in funding in February this year and said it would operate 19 stores by the end of 2021. The latest announcement would triple this goal by the end of 2022.

Currently, Foxtrot has nine Chicago stores and two each in Dallas and Washington, D.C.

The convenience store startup has been growing during the COVID-19 pandemic and identified opportunities in empty storefronts left vacants as other retailers struggled, said Fortrox’s CEO and co-founder, Mike LaVitola.

In addition to adding new stores in its hometown Chicago, the company is planning to enter new cities including New York, Austin, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles and Houston.

The new locations will double in size Foxtrot’s earliest stores, with on-site cafes where customers can grab a coffee, meals or a glass of wine.
