Last update:

Shell Hungary opened its first LNG filling station, a facility that connects several trans-European corridors located in Szigetszentmiklós.

The station, which has been modernized to meet the company’s high quality and safety standards across Europe, will supply LNG and, in the future, bio-LNG fuel to trucks in Hungary. The site will also support trucks to other countries such as Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia.

As a fuel for trucks and marine transport, LNG can play an important role in meeting energy and climate goals by providing a cleaner combustion process and lower carbon dioxide emissions than diesel.

"The new station in Hungary is an important member of Shell's European LNG network, which supports the uptake of LNG as a truck fuel in Hungary and in countries with significant freight volumes such as Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia," said István Kapitány, Global Vice President at Shell Mobility Business.

The heavy-duty transport sector is responsible for 9% of global CO2 emissions and with demand expected to triple by 2050, it needs to become decarbonised. Shell is helping its transport partners to reduce carbon emissions by providing cleaner energy solutions.
