English Español Shell launches CO₂-reduced diesel in Germany

The new raw-materials-based fuel will join the company’s portfolio of low-emission products such as its GTL Fuel made from natural gas.

Shell Germany is expanding its range for business customers in the mobility sector with its new Renewable Diesel.

By using waste and residual materials such as used cooking oil, the paraffinic fuel can achieve a saving of up to 90% CO2 emissions over the entire product life cycle. The new product will join Shell GTL Fuel made from natural gas, which has been on the market since 2013.

In addition, customers who have the Shell Card will soon be able to fill up with the new diesel at selected service stations in Germany.

"This means we can now offer this innovative product to our business partners in mining, agriculture and forestry as well as in logistics for road transport without the complicated exemptions that were previously required, helping them to reduce their carbon footprint," said Dirk Abend, Commercial Fuels Sales Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and Sönke Kleymnann, Commercial Road Transport Cluster Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Shell Renewable Diesel is produced by hydrogenation and isomerization of renewable raw materials and complies with the required EN15940 standard. It can be used in new and older diesel vehicles without investment.

In other European countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium and Scandinavia, Shell has already been offering paraffinic diesel at Shell filling stations for some time.
