Wawa is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and has announced plans to expand its convenience store network in central Pennsylvania to 40 new locations by 2029.

Last week, the c-store chain broke ground on a new location and announced the site is the first one of a series of openings across the central region of the state. Over the next five years, the company expects to create 1,400 jobs via this expansion.

“It's official—Wawa is spreading our wings to reach Central Pennsylvania, and we couldn't be more thrilled to share details of our exciting growth plans with our newest soon-to-be neighbors!” said Brian Schaller, President of Wawa.

The brand currently operates more than 1,000 locations in New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, D.C. In the last months, it has announced plans to expand its reach up to approximately 240 new stores across new states in the next eight to 10 years.

Its growth strategy involves the opening of expanding into the eastern region of North Carolina with 80 new locations, building approximately 40 stores across Kentucky, over new 60 stores in Ohio, and inaugurating approximately 60 sites in Indiana.
